I'm a few pages away from finishing it & it's been a good book. There are some obvious changes from the book to where we are now in the show but not bad changes.
The set up in the book was similiar to show when it comes to Dallas. Godric in the books isn't Eric's maker. There is a character Farrell who I thought might have been it but I'm not sure & it hasn't been said.
Sookie/Eric. While investigating Lafayettes death Sookie asks Eric to go to some orgy with her & she asks him to pretend he's gay. He shows up wearing pink spandex (and I was picturing ASkars in pink spandex as I was reading that). The whole "Yield to me" was a pretty hot moment as Eric has Sookie on the hood of his (or her's car) & he's pretty turned on (fangs out etc) & then Bill has to show up. BOOO. But there is the bullet sucking that we are being treated to tonight. Eric does play Sookie for a bit of a fool when she finds out from Bill that Eric had a knife that she could have used to get the bullet out. There is also a bit more sexual tension in the books than on the show at this moment but I see that building. They also seem to meet for the first time in this book & her outfit that she wears to Fangtasia when she meets him screams trailer park.
Sookie's wardbrobe. The book makes me appreciate AP's outfits on the show because in the books she dresses like Jaime Pressly's character Joy on My Name is Earl.
Tara/Eggs - Eggs does not seem at all what he is on the show. If I've heard right Tara is not in book 1 & in Book 2 Tara/Egg's are dating/engaged.
Terry Bellefleur - is older in the books than on tv. Book Terry is a veteran of the Vietnam war & is desbribed as being slightly disfigured facially.
What I hope that they use from the books in the series is that in this book by chance Bill finds out he is related to the Bellefleurs & that Andy is his great-great-great-grandson.
Dallas was also a bit different. Sookie does go undercover to the FoTS with Hugo. Gabe does in fact nearly rape her. Godric/Godfrey does kill Gabe. BUT Godric meets the sun & Sookie witnesses it. Also Stan is desbribed as being very nerdy not at all the cowboy looking Stan on the show.
So if anyone else has read this book & wants to add to this feel free.

I finally finished Book 2 last night after watching TB.
I still have no idea who Eric's Maker is in the book, but I thought someone said we won't know until book 7 or 8. Sookie does still watch Godric meet the dawn, with some of the same dialogue, but obviously no Eric mention/connection. (Leif cracked me up, because instead of ASkars, I was picturing Leif Garrett, and that does NOT work for me.) TV! Godric's death was much more powerful than in the book.
Book!Dallas was interesting in other ways that they could have incorporated into TB. Like Luna's character - I love that there are other Shifters, and they're well organized and wanting to stay hidden. If AB took Luna and made her Daphne, I will be upset.
I get Book Sookie/Eric. I'd heard enough about the pink spandex that I was worried about Book!Eric, but given the reason for it, it makes sense in a REALLY weird way. I do NOT EVER want to see ASkars in it, however. Please, Gods, NO. I liked the car hood thing (kinda hope we get to see it on the show), and really liked how both Bill and Eric protected Sookie from Callisto.
Book Tara and Eggs are engaged, although I doubt for long after the orgy scene.
I think Book Terry is from Vietnam because the books were written in 2001/2002. Before this last round in Iraq, and I don't think anyone had acknowledged Desert Storm as causing PTSD at the time - I think it came about after Desert Shield, or Iraqi Freedom (whatever Bush called Gulf War II) and people were coming back traumatized.
Sorry this is all over the place, but there was a lot to process, and since we're still in the middle of S2, I don't know what will get added, and what won't.

Not to mention that Eric,Pam & Chow all fed off Sookie after the maenaed attack. It wasn't just Bill's blood like in the show. I wish AB had done that instead.
There seems to be more of a camraderie (sp?) with Book Bill & Book Eric but that could have just been my impression.
I'd LOVE to see the car hood scene with Eric/Sookie. Just imagining ASkars saying "Yield to Me" is hot.
I thought that AB played pretty close to the book with the bullet sucking except that Book Bill said that Eric had a knife & she didn't need to suck it out. TV Bill however seemed more dickish about it last night.

Actually aside from the knife, the other difference was that Book Eric said the bullet would stay in his body, and TV Bill said it would get pushed out on its own while Eric healed.
Maybe Eric was just saying that as another way to get Sookie to suck his blood, but I thought he was serious about that part.

He could have been just saying that. I get the sneaky manipulative side to Book Eric like TV Eric even though it seemed like Book Eric does have a bit more of a sense of humor but I don't doubt that AB will completely forgo that part of Eric (atleast I hope not).

I'm hoping that once Eric gets over mourning Godric, he'll be more like he has been these last couple of episodes - his sense of humor was more like the books. Don't get me wrong I like serious brooding Eric, but playful sneaky Eric has his uses as well.

It's nice to see him be playful, sneaky. I think it helps make him unpredictable because you don't know how he's going to react. He could have been seriously ticked at Jason back at Godric's place instead he just smiles & says run along (or something to that effect).

I think he's still ticked at Jason.
But if Erie still wants Sookie, he has to do it the way he did. Look at her reaction to Eric's dealing with Lafayette. Just imagine it 10x for her brother, and Eric is smart not to give in to that impulse. The scene we did get with Jason is enough to scare Jason straight, there's really no need for overkill (so to speak)

I liked the car hood thing (kinda hope we get to see it on the show), and really liked how both Bill and Eric protected Sookie from Callisto. I'm so with you. I keep hearing about the pink spandex and I really don't want ASkars in that. I know he would be game because he has a great sense of humor but I would rather they found a sexy outfit. I believe CH chose that because Eric is supposed to pretend he is gay or bi. She has terrible taste with the clothing. I rather he did some black leather pants. Cuz, nothing says back ass vampire like leather pants. (I'm having Angel flashbacks now.). I really want the car hood scene or some version of it. But since they were investigatiing Lafayette's death by going to the orgy and not specifically Callisto, I'm not sure how they can work it in. Eggs was also kind a gay or rather, bi. He told us Eric had a big - uh- package before Sookie did. LOL. Eric also glamoured Tara - I want some TVEric and TVTara interaction even if it's not the glamouring.

I can see some TVEric/TV Tara interaction the more involved with Eric Sookie gets. How could there not be when she is her best friend?

I can see some TVEric/TV Tara interaction the more involved with Eric Sookie gets. How could there not be when she is her best friend? You would think this was true but think about how much Bill/Tara interaction we've had. Zero. Other than the Bill scene from Season one with Sook/Gran/Tara and Jason. In fact that's one of my biggest frustratios with TV Bill. Book Bill was intergrated into Bon Temp. Whereas Book Bill is all about Sookie. Well, also Jessica has been added. But TV Bill is more charismatic I think than Book Bill. So there's so good and bad changes in the show.

Well I hope as the series progresses we'll see more interactions with all the characters. Jason/Bill Jason/Eric etc.
Do you think AB will incorporate the fact that in the books Bill finds out he's related to Andy?

I think he will. There was scene in Season One where Bill took notice that Andy was a "Beffluer" (how do you spell it?). I wonder why they don't have Portia on the show - they mention her but didn't cast anyone I guess.

Maybe they will bring Portia in as the series progresses. If Sookie/Bill break up maybe they will find an alternate way to introduce her to Bill since they didn't cover the sex party which is why Portia/Bill were seen together.

I could see that. Maybe they have mentioned her for a reason.
